Video en donde exploro ideas sobre la vida, la muerte y lo espiritual a través de la sucesión y mezcla de imágenes provenientes del álbum fotográfico de mi familia materna, guiado por los poemas “La canción de mi vida” y “Dolor del mundo” que se recitan de fondo, de la poeta alemana Else Lasker-Schüler. Del álbum extraigo las fotografías pertenecientes a mi tío Jose Luis, quien murió joven. Su muerte temprana, al igual que fragmentos de su vida, me hicieron pensar en una búsqueda espiritual que se alza por encima de los ideales sociales o familiares. Los poemas, por su parte, hablan del sufrimiento, la muerte y la transformación de un alma que transita un mundo de imágenes e ilusiones que se desintegran. El video me permite dar movimiento a las fotografías y, con la voz y el sonido, recrear a manera de un sueño enigmático y abierto, ese espíritu que busca encontrarse y despojarse del sufrimiento que presenta su vida cotidiana.

The burning wind of the desert

Video where I explore ideas about life, death and the spiritual through the succession and mixture of images from the photographic album of my maternal family, guided by the poems "The song of my life" and "Pain of the world" by the German poet Else Lasker-Schüler, which are recited in the background. From the album, I extract the photographs belonging to my uncle Jose Luis, who died young. His early death, as well as fragments of his life, made me think of a spiritual quest that rises above social or family ideals. The poems, for their part, speak of suffering, death and the transformation of a soul that transits a world of images and illusions that disintegrate. The video allows me to give movement to the photographs and, with the voice and the sound, to recreate —like an enigmatic and open dream—, that spirit that seeks to find itself and shed the suffering that its daily life presents.
